The UVA School of Medicine was the tenth medical school to open in the United States, it has been part of the University of Virginia since the University's establishment in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson. The school's facilities are on the University of Virginia Grounds adjacent to the historic Academical Village, and it shares a close association with the University of Virginia Health System.

The Medical Center and School of Medicine provide the diverse patient population, dedicated faculty, excellent clinical and basic science departments, and nationally recognized research programs required to create an environment optimal for learning and for the development of future leaders in the art and science of medicine.
Applications to GME
The UVA Medical Center is a participating member of the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and all applicants for first-year positions must register with these programs.

Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program
About BIMS
Students in Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (BIMS) are recognized for their accomplishments through numerous awards and fellowships. Most importantly, BIMS students are major contributors to the impactful research that defines our graduate program and institution.
BIMS Programs
Research in the BIMS Graduate Program covers a wide array of disciplines, from understanding basic biological functions to developing effective therapies for human disease.
BIMS Courses
Ph.D. training begins with an immersive 12-week immersive core course, followed by specialized 6-week electives ("BIMS modules"). The electives are selected in consultation with the mentor and PhD program director based on the student's research interests. All BIMS students are also required to take a Research Ethics course in their first year.
Public Health Masters Programs
Master of Public Health
The Master of Public Health Program at the University of Virginia offers an individualized and interdisciplinary experience that focuses on the competencies professionals need to improve the health of communities and individuals.
Master of Science in Clinical Research
The Master of Science in Clinical Research Program in the Department of Public Health Sciences is an interdisciplinary graduate degree designed to meet the changing needs of the current health care field, particularly the increasing need for trained professionals with well-developed quantitative and analytical skills.
Additional Educational Programs
